Are you and your four-legged friend looking to explore the great outdoors? Then British Columbia is the ideal destination! British Columbia is home to some of the world's most beautiful hikes, some of which offer incredible views and memorable experiences.
Here is a list of five of the best dog-friendly hikes in British Columbia:
The Meadows in the Sky Parkway Trail at Mount Revelstoke National Park is an easy, flat hike that overlooks stunning mountain scenery and meadows with wildflowers. Dogs must remain on a leash at all times, so make sure your pup stays close.
Cathedral Grove is a gorgeous temperate rainforest located at MacMillan Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. This looping trail runs for just over 1km and passes through a beautiful old-growth forest with gigantic trees, creeks, and lush ferns. Dogs are welcome in Cathedral Grove as long as they are on a leash at all times.
The Tunnel Bluffs Trail offers spectacular views along its 5km route around Howe Sound near Lions Bay. The trail starts off with an easy incline before reaching a few sets of stairs that lead to two different amazing lookout points – one to the east and one to the west. As always, keep your pup on a leash throughout the duration of your hike.
Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area, Yale (between Hope & Merrit)
The Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area offers 10km of trails ranging from easy family walks to more challenging terrain for expert hikers (and skilled pups!). Enjoy stunning views with peaks like The Wedge, High Shoulder Tower, Mount Coffin, Rainbow Mountain, Overnight Hill and Harper’s Peak within reach as you trek through forests filled with Douglas Fir Trees or hike alongside waterfalls roaring down granite shafts. Although dogs aren't allowed in alpine areas or where grooming machines are used during winter skiing operations, there's still plenty of room for Rover below the tree line! Dogs must remain on leash throughout their stay here too–so stick together!
The Sea-to-Summit journey offers spectacular views like no other place around, taking hikers from the waterside beach all the way up to breathtaking viewpoints in a single four-hour hike. It's perfect for those who want an amazing experience with their pooch in toe; an easy route where you can safely observe your pup enjoying all that nature has to offer while developing their physical & mental health at the same time. You may purchase a ride-down day ticket for your dog at the base or at the summit. These tickets are $15 and each dog requires a ticket. Once at the summit, dogs must stay in the "Dog Parking" area in the plaza.
